India’s Sensex and Nifty 50 extended their losing run to five straight sessions on Friday, as crude oil prices rose further amid the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.
The Sensex dropped 331.62 points, or 0.43 per cent, to close at 76,059.77. The Nifty 50 declined 102.15 points, also 0.43 per cent, to settle at 23,767.45, slipping below the 23,800 mark.
The decline was led by auto, metal and energy stocks, sectors most exposed to movements in global crude oil prices.
IT and media stocks were the exceptions, ending the day higher and offsetting some of the broader market’s losses.
Friday’s close marks the fifth consecutive session of losses for both benchmark indices.
