Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand are bracing for very heavy rain after the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for the next two days.
The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall over Ladakh for the rest of the week.
Wind speeds may reach up to 80 kmph in some areas, which the department said could cause uprooted trees and power outages.
Traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying localities are also expected as the rain continues.
Hilly states have been cautioned about the risk of landslides and sudden rises in river water levels due to the persistent rainfall.
