Police in India’s capital have approved a mass rally by the opposition Congress party on November 1.
It will be held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
The rally is part of a campaign against a revision of electoral rolls.
Police said they are coordinating on security and traffic.
The party’s president announced the rally last month.
Ramlila Maidan is one of three grounds in East Delhi named as designated protest sites after Jantar Mantar was de-notified, along with Burari Ground and CBD Ground, according to reports on October 12.
Some reports say the permission came after the police had refused permission to the Cockroach Janta Party for events at Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place. This comparison is made by those outlets and National Herald does not carry it.
Congress and other opposition parties have said the SIR leads to large-scale deletion of voters, which the Election Commission has not accepted in the reports reviewed.
The opposition leaders filed a petition in the Supreme Court on October 12, and on October 15 the court issued notice to the Election Commission, according to LiveLaw and ANI.
The Delhi Police had earlier registered FIRs over the October 12 march towards the Supreme Court, citing the lack of permission, according to The Tribune.
The Congress rally permission is separate from those cases, and the reports reviewed did not link them.
A no-objection certificate from the police is a clearance that the police have no objection to an event, usually with conditions on timing, security and crowd management.
Details of the expected crowd and the list of speakers were not given in the reports reviewed.
Readers should follow police advisories closer to November 1 for traffic arrangements around the venue.
The reports on the clearance were published on October 17, 2026.
National Herald, Free Press Journal, Daily Excelsior and Newstrack reported the clearance.
The rally on November 1 falls within the clearance window of October 25 to November 3.
