The BJP and JKNC are set for rival protests in Srinagar and Jammu today, as political tensions in Jammu and Kashmir continue to rise.
The JKNC’s planned gherao of BJP headquarters follows the BJP’s own announcement of a march towards the Civil Secretariat against the state government.
JKNC has cited constitutional guarantees for the region, restoration of full statehood, clearance of the pending reservation file, and Union Government accountability as reasons for the protest.
The Srinagar demonstration is scheduled for 10:00 am at Gindun Park near the Rajbagh police station, with a parallel protest planned in Jammu.
Security has been visibly tightened around BJP offices in both cities ahead of the day’s dueling demonstrations.
The standoff comes against the backdrop of long-pending demands for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, an issue that has repeatedly resurfaced in the region’s post-reorganisation political discourse.
